Scrap Cancer! is a scrapbooking event held at the end of October with a goal to raise much needed funds for Breast Cancer Support Services (BCSS).  Rebecca McKenzie, Founder, was inspired to create this event after her friend Sharon was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2006.  What better way to raise money for a good cause than to do something fun and meaningful that we all loved to do - scrapbook!!

The first Scrap Cancer! event was held in 2007, and to date we have raised over $58,000 for BCSS which does not receive any government funding.  It is the only support centre of its kind in the area focusing on breast cancer and breast health.  BCSS aims to increase public awareness by educating communities about early detection and prevention while providing support and instilling hope to those inflicted with the disease through regularly scheduled support group meetings and treatments including massage, reiki, art therapy etc.

ALL proceeds from Scrap Cancer! go directly to BCSS and contribute towards providing cancer patients with Mastectomy Kits, Chemotherapy Kits (includes items to help the patients after surgery and/or treatments), and aid in other support services.   In addition , we have been able to set aside a growing fund to be used for extenuating circumstances or to aid a child who has lost a parent to breast cancer in the form of a scholarship.

We have also been able to add a new Family & Friends support group at BCSS as we recognize that a person's cancer journey also affects those closest to them and they have a need for additional support as well.  New discoveries are being made all the time and it is our hope that someday soon this terrible disease will be eradicated.  Until then...Let's Scrap Cancer!!
